My brother in law carved our initials into this tree
which outlined the reception area. |
This week marks my husbands and I 1st anniversary. I am from the south and wanted a country, shabby chic wedding, and that's just what we had. The wedding took place in my parents back yard under oaks and pines. It was beautiful and completely DIY. The only thing we had brought in were tables and chairs. We cooked all the food, made the ALL decorations, I'm talking poring 50 pounds of candle wax to make candles) and my sister made the cake.We had BBQ chicken, tenderloin, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, and baked beens. It was truly a old timey southern wedding!

My handsome hubby and me! |
My parents live across a train track so at sundown we
snuck away to take some photos on the track.
This sign greeted guest as they arrived. We had horse shoes and ladder ball and the reception, and yes there was fishing in the pond in front of the house, which was a big hit!

I had a wonderful photographer, I just told her to capture every moment and every decoration she could because I knew I wasn't going to remember it and wanted good pictures to look back and see what happen! |
The whole wedding was focused around mason jars and insulators for decoration, they are so simple but so beautiful. And, since we are from the south we had PLENTY of them around.
|
This is a before photo but you can really see all the different things hanging in the tree. The large candle jar
now hangs on my back porch.
About 100 jars and insulators filled with flowers and candles hung from the trees. It was very enchanting at night when the whole area was lite up with candle light.
The table center pieces were all jars and candles. There was a jug filled with flowers, a mason jar with our engagement photo tied to it, and a candle. They were all sitting on antique dollies from my grandmothers and aunts.

We made ALL of the candles, and to be smart we added citronella to all of them to keep the bugs away.
The down side is not all of the candles burned up and now we have citronella candles for years.... |
|
The cloths line was between two trees. You can not see them but one tree had framed photos of my grandparents wedding, and the other had my husbands grandparents. Then we started from the outside of the line with our baby photos and the timeline got older until we meet in the middle. |
|
My sister MADE THIS CAKE. Not only is it beautiful, but it tasted amazing too! |
|
We also had pies! home made!
|
|
The sweets table had a hand made sign that said " Sweet Love" out of scrapbook paper, super easy! |
|
Hand made signs were tied to all of the candy jars and bags were provided, for everyone to take some home. This is one thing that was all gone by the end of the night! |
My grandmothers broach(my dads side) was attached to my bouquet. I also had my moms mothers attached to my veil. It was a way to have a part of them with me on my very special day.
